Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Celebrate Church in Brandon, SD. William “Bill” Carmody, born to Vernon and Marie (Huls) Walter on April 4, 1947 in Canova, SD. After Vernon's passing in 1948, Marie married Raymond Carmody who then adopted Bill as his own and he was raised on a farm near Oldham, SD. He graduated from St. Agnes Catholic School in Howard, SD in the class of 1965. He then went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from General Beadle State College (Dakota State College) in Madison SD. Following college he served honorably in the United States Army until being discharged on June 16, 1976. He was united in marriage to Dixie Drake on July 5, 1969, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oldham, SD. The couple made their home in Valley Springs, and were blessed with five children. Bill started at UPS in 1975, retiring as an air freight manager in 1996. Bill’s favorite hobbies were fishing, anything to do with cars and listening to the oldies. He enjoyed spending time with family and especially enjoyed family time at the lake cabin. Bill was a proud family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bill was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September, 2016. We couldn't be more proud of him for putting in a tough fight, and we will continue on as "Bills Bunch". Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Michelle (Dennis) Erickson of Valley Springs, Brent Carmody (Jolene Severson) of Valley Springs, Tonya (Nate) Ver Steeg of Luverne, MN, Tracy (Wade Miles) Carmody of Luverne, and Kevin (Erika) Carmody of Scottsbluff, NE; 17 grandchildren, Alyssa (Collin Rofshus), Katie, and Tyler Erickson; Haley, Braydon, and Blake Carmody; Andrew Ellis; Hannah, Brooke, and Kale Ver Steeg; Payton and Carter Stemper; Korbin Miles; Addison, Kinzee, Hayden, and Harper Carmody; great grandson, William Polanec; brothers, Jack (Mary) Carmody of Mitchell, SD, Gene (Kay) Carmody of Green River, WY, and Jim (Nan) Carmody of Ramona, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife Dixie in 2011, his parents Vernon Walter, Raymond and Marie Carmody; brother, Donald Carmody, nephew John Carmody.
