He graduated from West Union High School in 1949, and then attended Upper Iowa University graduating in Education in 1952. Bill also graduated from the Iowa Auctioneering School in 1968. He graduated from West Union High School in 1949, and then attended Upper Iowa University graduating in Education in 1952. Bill also graduated from the Iowa Auctioneering School in 1968. Bill passed away on March 6, 2013, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He and Marjorie Minger were married in 1956 in Fayette and have been happily married for 56 years. Bill retired in 1993 after 29 years of teaching at Turkey Valley Schools. Bill was a member and Military Commander of the Hawkeye American Legion. He served as Commissioner for the Fayette County Commission of Veterans Affairs and as President of the Hawkeye Telephone Company and was Emcee for many years for the Hawkeye Fun Day Parade. Bill was also active and a member with the Farm Bureau Association, the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association Institute and the REC. He was an advocate for education and sustainable agriculture. He was awarded the SWCD Conservation Owner of the Year Award from Fayette County in 2003. Survivors include his wife Marge of Hawkeye; two sons and two daughters, David (wife Denise) of Stoddard, Wisconsin, Paul of West Union, Iowa, Kim (husband Kelly) of Columbia, Missouri, Michelle of Vancouver, Canada; two grandchildren, Faith and Roan and one brother , Bernard. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 1 pm at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, Iowa, with the Rev. Dale Rausch officiating, a visitation will precede the service from 9 am until noon at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home in West Union. Burial will follow in West Union Cemetery with Military Honors performed by Arnold-Rogers Post #312, American Legion of Hawkeye, Iowa. Memorials may be directed towards the family for the establishment of a scholarship fund at North Fayette Valley and Turkey Valley schools. Burnham-Wood & S.K.
