Tom Martin. Pallbearers were his nephews. Bill was born January 10, 1949, in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Harlan and Arleen Thurn. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport. He graduated in 1967 from Central Community High School, Elkader, and served in the Army in the Vietnam War until 1970. Following his service he was employed by Baker Manufacturing in Fort Dodge. He married Joyce Ann Powers, October 24, 1970. He received his A.A. degree from Iowa Central Community College. At the time of his death he was manager of Baker Pipe and Supply. He died Sunday, June 29, 1997 from a heart attack at J-Wood Park near Garnavillo. Survivors include his wife Joyce; four sons, Chad and his wife Charlene of North Liberty, Aaron and friend Allison of Mount Vernon, Nick and T.J., both a home in Mount Vernon; two special grandchildren, Samantha and Trevor; his mother, Arleen Thurn of Littleport; two brothers, Harlan and wife Phyllis of St. Olaf, and Gary and wife Nancy of Elkader; a sister Marlene and husband Ron Bair of Cedar Rapids.
