Funeral services for Bill Wright, 62 yr. old farm hand, killed Sunday Afternoon on Highway 151 five miles northeast of here, were held yesterday. Rev. Wm. J. Grossheim conducted the last rites in the Presbyterian Church. Interment was made at Scotch Grove. Wright was struck as he walked across the highway, by an automobile driven by Tom Moore of Marion. Wright was on his way from the Elmer Ricklefs farm, where he had done some work, to the Nick Kleitsch farm, where he was regularly employed. Wright died as he was being rushed to the Monticello Hospital by Mr. Ricklefs. Wright, according to witnesses, started across the pavement, saw Moore’s car approach from the south and hesitated in the center of the road. Robert Pier of Dubuque was driving trom the north, and the approach of the two cars confused the elderly former farm manager. “He walked right in front of my car,” Roy Pearson, local marshal, quoted Moore as saying. Witnesses said the body was thrown several feet in the air, the impact pushing the radiator against the motor so that the car would not run. “We were going about 35 miles an hour,”Pearson quoted the Marion driver, who is 26, as saying. Six persons were in the Moore car, which is owned by Robert Riesland of Cedar Rapids. Three persons were riding in the Dubuque car. Mr. Wright is survived by his mother, Mrs. Loanza Wright, three sons, Peter and Raymond of Monticello, and Joe of Anamosa, one daughter, Mrs. Donald Dighton of Hopkinton, one sister, Mrs. Fannie Bowers of Hopkinton, and five brothers, Silas, Frank, and Lewis of Monticello, Ace of Cedar Rapids, and Charles of Sioux Falls, S. Dak. He was born in Jones county, Jan 4, 1877, the son of James and Loanza Wright. Miss Theresa Winnus became his bride Jan. 2, 1907 when he was 27 yrs. old. His bride was 19. The ceremony was performed in Monticello by G.W. Eastwood, then justice of the peace. Mr. Wright had been a farmer in and around Jones county all his life, and had lived in the Monticello during the last 17 years. from contributor 48841367
