Read More	This article about Nelson Boudoin also tells the story of William's death: OLD GRAVE OF WAR VETERAN LOCATED BY AMERICAN LEGION Ending long search by Codington County Post No. 17, American Legion, the grave of Nelson Boudoin, a Civil war veteran and an early Codington county resident who was accidentally killed in 1881, has been located and will be marked with a government headstone. Boudoin, who served in the Civil war with a Wisconsin regiment, was killed while descending into a well he has digging between Kranzburg and Bemis, according to statements given the post by the veteran's family who spell the name "Boadwine" at present, having relinquished the spelling by which the veteran was known. Boudoin was overcome by gas after his fall and his son (William) attempting to rescue him, also perished. Father and son were buried in one grave in the Kranzburg cemetery and, according to reports, the burial service was read by the late John B. Hanten, there being no priest in the vicinity at that time. To ascertain location of the grave, Oscar Youngren, field worker for the Graves Registration service operated through the office of the Legion post here, spent considerable time in the Kranzburg vicinity. He was referred to Nick Kranz, one of the early settlers in that area and apparently the only person recalling the accident from personal contact. Accompanied by Mr. Youngren, Mr. Kranz visited the old section of the Kranzburg cemetery and identified the spot where Boudoin and his son are buried. The location has been marked and as soon as the stone can be secured by the post, it will be erected to mark the grave of the veteran who was one of the first persons to die in Codington county.
