Rolfes, 81, of Halbur, oldest barber in Carroll County, died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1. He had been ill for two weeks. Requiem mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Augustine Church here by the Rev. Victor Kollasch. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Twit Funeral Home, Carroll, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday. The rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m., and Friday at 3, 8, and 8:45 p.m., the last by the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Rolfes was a lifelong Halbur resident and barbered here for 64 years. He was born here Jan. 25, 1892, a son of George and Anna K. Schoesler Rolfes. On Jan. 29, 1913, he married Anna Prenger at St. Augustine Church, Halbur, with the Rev. John B. Baeumler officiating at the ceremony. He was the former owner of the Rolfe Tavern and of the Halbur Dance Hall. He also was a former Halbur councilman. Mr. Rolfes was a member of St. Augustine Church and had sung with the Men's Choir of the church. He also belonged to the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society, and was a former member of the Iowa Master Barbers Association. Surviving with his wife are seven children, including Orville of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. John (Estelyn) Kaus of Spencer, LaVerne of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Vern (Dorothy) Goyette of Royal, William of Waterloo, Jerome of Carroll and Ronald of Fargo, N.D.; also 27 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, George C. of Pico Rivera, Calif.; and two sister, Mrs. Kathryn Hagen of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Lawrence (Helen) Eischeid of Omaha.
