Description	:	William Carl was born near Iberia, Marion County, Ohio on Feb 14, 1825 where he passed his boyhood days, moving to Indiana when 12 years of age and from there to Cedar County, Iowa in 1838. At the age of 23 he was married to Mary Jane Wall, and to this union were born eight children, four of whom are still living: O. J. Carl (Oney Jefferson) of Olin, Iowa; Caroline Smith of Summitt, South Dakota; E. M Carl (Edward) of Butte, Montana; and J.J. Carl (John James) of Dana, Iowa. His wife died in 1866. At the age of 23 he was married to Mary Jane Wall, and to this union were born eight children, four of whom are still living: O. J. Two years later, on April 4, 1868, he was married to Elizabeth Westfall at Tipton, Ia. In the spring of 1876 he moved to Greene County and settled on his farm in Paton Twp. where he resided until six years ago when he came to Paton. He was confined to the house a month in his last illness and passed away Tuesday evening, April 30, 1907 at age 82y 2m 16 d. He was a member of no church and belonged to no secret or benevolent societies but was a firm believer in a just and all-wise God, and was ever ready to assist the needy. He was a loving husband, indulgent father and kind neighbor. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Paton Thursday May 2, 1907.
