Description	:	Bill was the son of R. L. Bowen, Sr. and Nannie Cason. He graduated from Wofford Fitting School and was a 1923 graduate of Wofford College. He commanded various CCC companies in South Carolina during the Depression and he graduated from various army schools, including the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. He was an engineer and chemist for the Spartanburg Water Works for many years and was the Superintendent of the Spartanburg Filtration Plant, near Rainbow Lake. He graduated from Wofford Fitting School and was a 1923 graduate of Wofford College. He commanded various CCC companies in South Carolina during the Depression and he graduated from various army schools, including the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. He was an engineer and chemist for the Spartanburg Water Works for many years and was the Superintendent of the Spartanburg Filtration Plant, near Rainbow Lake. In 1961, the Water Works Commission named Lake William C. Bowen in his honor, and he retired in November, 1972, after 34 years service. He was a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a Fellow of the American Water Works Association, and a recipient of many awards presented by his organizations. He was very active in Rotary Club affairs and at Southside Baptist Church. He retired from the Army after 39 years service (active and reserve); he was a veteran of World War II. At his passing, he was survived by his wife and two children.
