Description	:	William Charles Christian, Sr., 75, of Mayetta, died June 17, 1999, at the VA Hospital in Muskogee, OK. He was born March 30, 1924, in Bancroft, KS, the son of Robert and Clara Krack Christian. Mr. Christian graduated from Wetmore High School in 1942 and was a resident of Wetmore until 1976, when he moved to Topeka. He had lived in Mayetta for the past two years. He was a decorated World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He served in the Air Offensive Europe, having particpated in 15 combat sorties over enemy occupied territory. He was a prisoner... Read More	William Charles Christian, Sr., 75, of Mayetta, died June 17, 1999, at the VA Hospital in Muskogee, OK. He was born March 30, 1924, in Bancroft, KS, the son of Robert and Clara Krack Christian. Mr. Christian graduated from Wetmore High School in 1942 and was a resident of Wetmore until 1976, when he moved to Topeka. He had lived in Mayetta for the past two years. He was a decorated World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He served in the Air Offensive Europe, having particpated in 15 combat sorties over enemy occupied territory. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for 15 months. He received a Bronze Star, an Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, three Overseas Service Bars, and a Purple Heart during his service. Mr. Christian was a farmer/stockman for 20 years in the Bancroft area, managed the Co-op's at Sabetha and Corning, and worked at the Co-op in Holton and at Burlingame. He later worked for Rex's Tires in Topeka for seven years before retiring in 1986. He was a past member of the Community Church in Bancroft and served on the Bancroft School Board for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #400 and the VFW Post #1650, both in Topeka. He was married to Betty Jeanne Nott on August 20, 1945, in Whiting, KS. She died October 20, 1980. Survivors include daughter, Connie Jo Becker, Lawton, OK; sons, William C. Christian Jr., Mayetta; Stephen D. Christian, Topeka; Michael A. Christian, Holton; brother, Robert Christian, Jr., Topeka; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and companion of eight years, Doris Coleman, Mayetta. Funeral Services were held June 19, 1999, at Mercer Funeral Home, Holton. Burial was in Wetmore Cemetery. Courier-Tribune Seneca, KS
