"On November 20, 1926, Mullins lost a good man, not one of the bright, active leaders of industrial or civic life, but a quiet, honest poor man that had many friends among those who knew him, William Daniel Blanton. Mr. Blanton was a farmer and during the past summer, made a crop, despite his age of 83. In recent years his sight failed him badly, but he was able to work and got along fairly well with the aid of his sons and family. Several months ago he was robbed of money that he and his good wife had saved. It was only a small amount but meant a great deal to the aged couple. While he worried a good deal over the loss, he stated that he bore no ill will to the boys who took it and prayed God's forgiveness for them, even asking that they be not prosecuted for the theft. The loss seemed to have worried him and his sickness, said to be caused by the worry. He was only confined to his bed about three weeks when death relieved his suffering. He was born March 2, 1843. June 2, 1878 was married to Martha Jane Lambert of Marion and to the union were born five children, James E. Blanton and D. M. Blanton, both of Mullins, E. E. Blanton of Dillon, Mrs. W. N. Rouse of Whiteville, N.C. and Mrs. E. K. Jones of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, J. P. Blanton of McColl; and one sister, Miss Christine Blanton of McColl. He was a member of the Baptist Church and attended regularly both Sunday School and church when his strength permitted. He will be missed in church circles as well as the home and by loved ones. Deceased left no landed estates to his children, but he did leave a priceless inheritance - that of a long life spent in honest toil, with love and fellowship to everyone.
