Read More	His obituary as it was published in the Oelwein Daily Register (Oelwein, IA) on Sept. 6, 1990: William D Claus, 65, of 719 West Charles, died at his home Tuesday morning, Sept. 4. He was self-employed in the construction business and had formerly worked for Oelwein Body and Truck. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy as a third class aviation machinist and was a member of the American Legion Ross Reid No 9. He was also a member of the Oelwein volunteer Fire Department from 1957 to 1985 and was a past deputy chief with the fire department. Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 7 at the Jamison Funeral Home in Oelwein with the Rev. Carroll Brown of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Oelwein American Legion. Friends may call at the Jamison Funeral Home after 3 pm Thursday. Survivors include a son Jay Robert Claus of Fairbank, five grandchildren, his mother Mr. Pearl Claus of Oelwein and two brothers M.S. 'Toots' Claus and Don R Claus both of Ocala, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, his wife, Mary Lou Driscoll Claus who died in September 1978, one son William D Claus, two daughters, Elizabeth Joy Claus and Mary Katherine Brandt, and a brother, Wayne E. Claus. He was born May 13, 1925 in Monticello, IA, the son of William T and Pearl L Shaw Claus. He had lived in Oelwein since 1954. A memorial fund to the Oelwein Fire Department has been established in his name.
