Description	:	William "Bill" D. Garringer, 89, of Monticello, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was born on October 18, 1931 in Monticello to the late David L. and Alta (Luse) Garringer. On October 28, 1951, he married Lula Van Meter in Monticello at the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Garringer, 89, of Monticello, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East. He was born on October 18, 1931 in Monticello to the late David L. and Alta (Luse) Garringer. On October 28, 1951, he married Lula Van Meter in Monticello at the Wesleyan Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on February 9, 2014. Bill was a 1949 graduate of Monticello High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired as a Sergeant from the Monticello Police Department in 1992 after 25 years of service and remained active in the Police Reserves. He also served as a White County Sheriff's deputy. In addition, he was a local 157 union plumber for 30 years. Bill served two terms on the Monticello City Council. He maintained memberships of the F.O.P and the VFW. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello. He is survived by two daughters; one son; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Garringer. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 3:00 PM celebrating Bill's life on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello with Pastor Ian McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in Hughes Cemetery.
