William was the son of Robert Dimmitt and Alice Chapman, and he was raised near the city of Knoxville. There were six other children born into the Robert and Alice Dimmitt family: Dianna, married William Elliott; Nancy, married James Jones; Susannah, married Abner Beeson; Thomas, married Rachel Elliot; Sophia, married John Brockus; and Miles, married Sarah Kenworthy. Findagrave memorials for two of William's siblings: Miles Dimmitt Sophia Dimmitt Brockus William and Susannah were married November 12, 1809, in Warren County, Ohio. In 1824, they moved to Tippecanoe County, Indiana, and settled into an area which became known as the High Gap Neighborhood in Union Township. William was mentioned in the Tippecanoe County history books as being one of the earliest settlers of the area, having moved there from Wayne County, Indiana, in "an early day." On May 25, 1825, William received the two 80-acre plots he had claimed as a "setter" from the federal government. The family lived here until they sold their farm on November 6, 1843, before moving to Iowa. In March 1845, William and Susannah left Indiana and brought their family to Iowa. William died on May 28, 1855, only ten years after making the trip to Iowa. Susannah survived him by only two years, dying on June 28, 1857. Sources of Information for Further Reading: 1. She married Nehemiah D. Earl on March 17, 1839, in Tippecanoe CO. Nehemiah and Elizabeth came to Wapello CO. IA. when the Dimmitt family moved here; however, they sold out and moved to Decatur CO. in 1876. On June 2, 1879, they sold their land in Decatur County. I have seen information on the internet, saying that Nehemiah died on July 5, 1890, and Elizabeth died on July 7, 1890, but there are no further details provided, and no sources about where this information came from. Elizabeth is shown in the June 1890 Census for Oklahoma City, living with her son William D., his wife Marah H., and their son Clarence. Nehemiah is not in that census record, so he must have already passed. If anyone knows anything further or finds any more information about the fate of Nehemiah and Elizabeth, please let me know. Earl Zachary Taylor Earl Susan (Earl) Foutch Amanda (Earl) Zollars Nehemiah and Elizabeth had two daughters whose graves we have not found yet: Alice, who married Andrew Chapman, and Loduska, who married Alexander Wright in Wapello County on February 23, 1871. Loduska and her husband had two children: Effie, born in 1873, and Guy, born in 1876. Loduska died in 1878.
