Description	:	William “Bill” Douglas Hunter, son of William Clyde and Nina Ruth James Hunter, was born October 25, 1924, in Versailles, Missouri. He departed this life on August 15, 2015, at his home with his family by his side. On January 31, 1948, he married Polly Campbell. In 1967, they grew their family and adopted their two oldest children, Robert and Patty and later, their youngest son, Michael was born. He departed this life on August 15, 2015, at his home with his family by his side. On January 31, 1948, he married Polly Campbell. In 1967, they grew their family and adopted their two oldest children, Robert and Patty and later, their youngest son, Michael was born. Bill is survived by his wife, Polly of 67 years; his son, Robert and fianceé Lisa of Springfield, Missouri; daughter, Patty Chittum and husband Fred (owners of Fred and Patty’s Trails End) of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; son, Michael Hunter of Versailles, Missouri; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Howard of Springfield, Missouri and numerous other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Hunter Lietzke, his brother, R.J. Hunter and his granddaughter, Patricia Morris. Bill was born and raised in Versailles, Missouri, where he graduated high school in 1943. He served his country as an Army Sergeant from 1943 to 1946, serving in WWII and the Korean War. He retired from Standard Oil (BP) at the age of 55. Following his retirement, he dedicated his life to God and was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles. He was voted citizen of the year in Versailles and he served as a civic leader for most of his years in numerous ways. He dedicated his time to helping others. He was very involved in the Missouri Farm Bureau and served as district president for twenty-five years. He always had a helping hand and will be remembered by many for his kindness. Bill served on the Central Missouri Regional Work Force Investment board for twenty-five years and also served on the Missouri Board of Representatives. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and caring neighbor and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22nd, at the Versailles First Assembly of God Church. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
