Paul Banitt officiated with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton, with military rites by the VFW Post 1151 of Creighton. Pallbearers were John Schwartz, Gene Schneider, Claude Cole, Bill Kruse, John Babl and Francis Montgomery. Hansen was born November 7, 1919, the son of Lewis A. and Victoria (Thierolf) Hansen west of Creighton. He died Thursday, Nov 26 at his home. He attended rural Creighton school and was a 1936 graduate of Creighton High School. He worked with his father on the farm and moved to a Holt County farm in 1941. On October 6, 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. On March 19, 1942 he went with McArthur's forces as a combat infantryman to the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received many medals including the Brown Star. He was discharged from the Army October 9, 1945. He played semi-pro baseball in Australia with the Australian Lions. When he returned to Nebraska he continued to play with the Creighton town team, where he was manager. He was co-manager of the O'Neill team. On November 6, 1948 he married Margaret Tharnish at Creighton. They moved to the family ranch in Holt County, where they raised Hereford cattle. They lived there until the time of Mr. Hansen's death. He was an active member in the VFW and the American Legion posts of Creighton and O'Neill. He served as post commander of the VFW. He was a member of the Verdigre Improvement Club and has served on the rural Star View school board. Survivors include his wife of O'Neill; seven children, Vicky at home, Brad of David City, Virginia of Lakewood, Colo., Kenneth of Norfolk, Valerie Wecker of O'Neill, Corinne of Aurora, Colo. and Nicole at home; three grandsons; three sisters, Mrs. Doris Grosskop of Verdigre, Mrs. Ardis Swanson on Tecumseh and Mrs. Joyce Lantz of Creighton.
