FLEURY, William (Bill) Earle, 91, a resident of Knoxville, TN, for 61 years, died June 10, 2011 at Mercy Residential Hospice. Born February 5, 1920, in Towson, MD to the late Paul Aime Fleury, III and Esther McAlister Fleury, he grew up on the family farm, Woodbine, in Upper Falls, MD.

FLEURY, William (Bill) Earle, 91, a resident of Knoxville, TN, for 61 years, died June 10, 2011 at Mercy Residential Hospice. Born February 5, 1920, in Towson, MD to the late Paul Aime Fleury, III and Esther McAlister Fleury, he grew up on the family farm, Woodbine, in Upper Falls, MD.
Bill attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA on a baseball scholarship and had summer jobs at Glenn L. Martin Aeronautics. He learned to fly at age 16 and in 1942 became a civilian primary pilot instructor for the Army Air Corp at Bennettsville, SC. In 1944 he was commissioned a Lieutenant and was an advanced pilot instructor at San Angelo, TX. He enjoyed flying and anything to do with flying throughout his life. He owned or had an interest in nine airplanes during his life. After WWII he was regional sales director for F.C. Russell Window Company. He then established and became president of the Knoville Rusco Window Company in 1950, which he headed for nineteen years. He later was a realtor with John Carter & Associates and then was a partner with Al Holmes in Holmes & Fleury Realty. After he retired he was a consultant for Shaad Realty Company.
Bill was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cathedral where he was the Boy Scout Master for ten years. He was on the Lay Board of St. Mary's Hospital for 25 years. He was a member of the West Knoxville Sertoma Club and also of the ROMEO group. He enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, following the Atlanta Braves, playing the harmonica, singing and being with his family and his many valued close friends.
Bill's close friends confirm that he was a man of high spirits and had a great sense of humor, an unusual memory, and was a consummate raconteur. He had a high sense of duty with high morals and integrity and will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Mary Thomas Fleury, three brothers, Paul Aime Fleury IV, Charles McAlister Fleury, Alexander Augustine Fleury, and a sister, Mary Virginia Fleury Emory.
He is survived by his step-daughters, Anne Foster Curtis of Chattanooga, TN, Barbara Foster Burrows (Stan) of Knoxville, TN, and step-son, John Shaw Foster III (Margo) of Atlanta, GA; brother, Lewis L. Fleury and his wife, Genevieve of Towson, MD, and sister, Esther Fleury Imhoff of Columbus, OH; two grandchildren, Polly Foster Curtis of Chattanooga, TN and Benjamin Bomar Curtis of New York, NY; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Donations in memory of Mr. Fleury may be made either to Sacred Heart Cathedral School, 711 Northshore Drive, SW, Knoxville, TN 37919 or to Mercy Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN, 37938.
A Funeral Mass Of The Resurrection will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cathedral, 711 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with Monsignor Xavier Mankel, V.G. presiding. Followed by Interment at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery on Sutherland Avenue and a luncheon reception at the Parrish Office Building of the Sacred Heart Cathedral.
