Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011, at United Methodist Church in Wapello, with a prayer at 7 p.m. by the Rev. Sue Ellen Sherman. Memorials may be made to Louisa County 4-H or Louisa County Fair, 4-H Cattle Division. Ed was born on July 15, 1962, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Vera Posten Bermel and William E. Bermel Sr. Ed graduated from Wapello High School in 1980. Following high school, he attended Muscatine Community College from 1980 to 1983. He continued his education at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, earning a bachelor of science in business/computer science and computer science/mathematics; and George Washington University in Certificate C++Programming and Object Oriented Analysis. On May 2, 2000, George Mason University School of Information Technology and Engineering certified that Ed completed the five-month Train to Technology Program C++and Object-Oriented Design. Muscatine Community College awarded Ed with the 2004 Outstanding Alumni Award. Other professional accomplishment included Secret Clearance for 22 years, Analysis & Programming in COBOL & DB2, 6 years Analysis & Programming in C++, OPBC, and Oracle, 5 1/2 years analyzing code, SQL and Designs for Application Performance Improvements, worked for three of the major consulting firms, and is a successful, independent computer consultant. Ed belonged to the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity, 1986 Outstanding Young Men of America, and had a mathematics article published in The Mathematics Teacher magazine. He was a volunteer Financial Advisor/Consultant to citizens of Prince William County. Ed enjoyed washing and waxing his 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang, wood working projects, maintaining his home in Manassas, Virginia, and spending time with friends. Survivors are his mother, Vera Bermel of Wapello; his father, Bill Bermel; two sisters, Jean Bermel of Wapello, and Pat Baudler of Winterset; and two nieces, Stacey Baudler, Winterset and Kathy Johnston, Dexter.
