McCaskey died at his home in Ogden at 8:30 a.m. on Monday December 22, 1902, being 84 years, 7 months and 25 days of age. He was among the first settlers in and around Ogden, and was respected by all who knew him as an honest upright man. William E. McCaskey was born April 25, 1818, in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. He was married to Martha Harvey, May 26, 1842, at Albin, Pennsylvania. They came to Boone county, Iowa, in 1855. His wife died in Ogden, May 25, 1884. He was again married to Milinda Chambers, October 23, 1885, she dying in Ogden, March 26, 1894. Since that time he has been cared for by his daughter, Mrs. A.J. Calder. Four children were born to him by his first wife, his only son dying when 11 years of age; the three daughters are still living, Mrs. A.J. Calder of Ogden, Mrs. William Kembal of Boone, and Mrs. John Kembal of Hot Springs, South Dakota. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. Hancox, interment at Maple Grove cemetery. Boone County Democrat January 2, 1903
