Description	:	Hays -- William Edmund "Bill" Schmidt, 76, Hays, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 1996, at Hays Medical Center. Mr. Schmidt was born Jan. 28, 1920, at Catherine. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and had worked for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service Office. He was a member of the St. Catherine Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council and church committee, all of Catherine, Veterans of Foreign Wars & American Legion. Read More	Hays -- William Edmund "Bill" Schmidt, 76, Hays, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 1996, at Hays Medical Center. Mr. Schmidt was born Jan. 28, 1920, at Catherine. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Melissa Sue Schmeidler. Survivors include his wife, Virginia of the home; three daughters, Norma J. Braun of Stockton, Mary Jane Schmeidler of Hays, and Kathleen Schmeidler of Lincoln; two brothers, Edgar J. of WaKeeney and Harold J. of Great Bend; a sister, Laurita Karlin of Hays; two half sisters, Clara Schmidt of Catherine and Florine Froelich of Victoria; and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Catherine Catholic Church, Catherine, the Rev. Earl Befort officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, followed by a vigil at 7:30 p.m. and Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m. at Hays Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to the church. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, 20th and Pine, Hays 67601. Salina Journal, 8/9/1996
