Read More	Phonograph (St. Paul) June 27, 1912: WILLIAM FREEMAN GONE On Saturday, June 15th, word reached here of the death of William Freeman, at his late home in California. It was impossible to learn anything relative to his death or when the funeral would take place until it was too late for us to get a report of same for last week’s paper. The remains arrived here last Wednesday morning and they were conveyed to the Methodist church where they lay until afternoon, at two o’clock when the funeral services were conducted, interment being made in Elmwood cemetery. Mr. Freeman was born in New York, in December, 1829. In early childhood he moved to Pennsylvania. Here he lived a good many years, where he was married and where four children were born to them. In 1871 he decided to come west and he came to Nebraska, settling in Howard county, taking a homestead on the place where Cushing now stands. After residing on the old homestead for a number of years he moved to this city where he entered the merchantile [sic] business. For some time he continued in business but in 1888 he again answered the call of the west, this time going to California, where he entered the real estate business. A few years there was enough for him and he returned to this county where he remained until 1905 when he lost his wife after fifty-two years of married companionship. Shortly after her death he again went to California, where he resided until he answered the final roll call. The deceased is survived by his four children, Mrs. E. B. Penny [sic], Fullerton, W. S. Freeman, Cushing, both of this state, Mrs. C. F. Doyle, Long Beach, Calif., and O. H. Freeman, Chellen, Wash. A large number of friends and old acquaintances of the Freeman family were at the depot that morning to meet them and to offer condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family ******** From a 1912 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney: W. E. Freeman died June 04 [sic], at Long Beach Cal., where he had made his home the past five years. The funeral service was held at St. Paul, Nebr., June 19th. Mr. Freeman was very well known in the Loupe country, having taken land near Cushing when Nance County was still an Indian reservation. He resided in Fullerton for about two years. Besides his daughter, Mrs. E. B. Penney, of this place, he leaves two sons and one daughter.
