Description	:	William Edward Eich, 72, was born on a farm west of Strang, on Nov. 17, 1925, to Edna Rhoda Eich and Ernest Eich. He passed away at the Heritage of Geneva on Nov. 27, 1997. Read More	William Edward Eich, 72, was born on a farm west of Strang, on Nov. 17, 1925, to Edna Rhoda Eich and Ernest Eich. He passed away at the Heritage of Geneva on Nov. 27, 1997. He was one of six children in the family. Bill went to White Temple School District No. 57, which was right across the road from where he was born and reared. He attend one year of high school in Strang and then went to Shickley, and graduated from Shickley High School in 1943. He loved sports and often said that “football” was his favorite subject. After high school he was on his way to the Army when the peace treaty was signed. He returned home and started farming. Bill married Dorothy Lea Hofferber in the Methodist Church in Geneva on Aug. 28, 1949, the 30th anniversary of Bill’s parents. Bill and Dorothy have three children: Mrs. Barbara Eberhart, William C. Eich and Kelly S. Eich. Bill enjoyed the affiliation and friendships of many through his membership in community groups. He loved all dogs, but had two great canine friends, a Golden Labrador and a Blue Heeler. His hobbies included hunting, shooting blue rocks, and enjoying Nebraska football and basketball. He was a member of the Elks Club for 46 years, Geneva Gun Club, the Country NRD board, Geneva Grange for 43 years, Saddle Club, 4-H Leader, Softball Coach, and he served as the Hamilton township men’s Republican Chairman for many years. Bill and Dorothy farmed and ran the Bil-Dot Dairy Farm for 48 years. Bill was forced into retirement 14 years ago because of health problems. He had been a resident of Heritage of Geneva since Aug. 15, 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Edna Rhoda Eich, a brother, Lowell; and by two brothers in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dale Eberhart and their children, Matthew and Chelsea Lea Eberhart; son William C. Eich and daughter Kelly S. Eich; sister, Marie Rhodes and husband, Stanley; brother, Robert Jene; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, with Rev. Dennis Linton-Hendricks officiating. Selections sang by the Salem Mennonite Men’s Quartet were “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Quartet members were Don Kempf, Dave Kempf, Cecil Kennel and Marlyn Noel. Church organist, Susan Kleinschmidt, accompanied the congregation who sang “How Great Thou Art.” Casket bearers were Rod Barney, Vaughn Hinrichs, Scott W. Houck, Merle Noel, Brad Schweitzer and Jason Tatro. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 3rd, 1997 page 5.
