Harrison died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Clarence Slaybaugh of Stanton Township, Fillmore County, Nebraska, at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 1930, aged 80 years and 17 days. Mr. Harrison’s parents came from England in 1842. He was born at Columbia, S. C., November 5, 1850. His father, a soldier was killed in the Civil War. His mother died in 1861. A friend of his mother took him and his brother to Eureka, Ill., and educated them. February 22, 1874, he was married to Miss Sarah Snedaker of Tonica, Ill. In the spring of 1878 they came to Arlington, Neb., in a covered wagon. After residing there two years, they moved to Western, Neb. In 1892, his wife having died, Mr. Harrison came to Geneva, Neb., and this has been his home since that time. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Harrison. Charles Frances and Edwin Eugene died in infancy. Mrs. Dora Wilken died May 6, 1922. Those surviving are Mrs. Anna Frantz of Geneva and William E. Harrison Jr. of Norfolk, Neb. There are ten grandchildren. All were present but one, Mrs. Gertie Libby of Turlock, Cal., and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Harrison’s brother, Charles Harrison of Denver arrived Monday to attend the funeral. Others coming for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hickson of Valley, Neb., the latter a niece, and Rev. B.E. Allen of Rockford, Ill., a nephew. Mr. Harrison was an employee of The Signal in the business department for just ten years, his fatal illness coming upon him about two weeks before his death. The Signal office was closed during the funeral hour that his associates might pay a tribute of respect to the memory of one whom they held in high regard. Mr. Harrison was a member of the Geneva Odd Fellow Lodge. Member of the order assisted in his care during his illness. Odd Fellows acted as pallbearers, and were in charge of the service at the cemetery. The funeral service was held in the Christian church in Geneva at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, and was conducted by Rev. George W. Caughran of Manhattan, Kas. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 27 Nov. 1930 front page.
