Steve Bostrom joined Lewis and Clark (LC) County Commissioner Susan Good Geise, LC County Commissioner Chairman Andy Hunthausen, LC County Sherriff Leo Dutton, members of the LC County Sheriff’s Office and roughly 50 onlookers for the burial ceremony held for those whose cremated remains were left in the care of the county corner's office and various funeral homes. A press release announcing the "Remembering the Forgotten" event stated that “extensive” efforts had been made to find relatives or next-of-kin....” Prior to burial, most of the remains had been identified, but the names and dates of death were still unknown for some. Geise said, “these decedents, for various reasons, have been left in the care of the County and at funeral homes, some since the 1930s,” Hunthausen said, “We here in Lewis and Clark County believe that all of these lives matter and all of our lives matter and that even in death we owe each other honor and respect. Sometimes these days, honor, respect and civility seem to be in short supply. Our community should be a model for those virtues, and that is why we are gathered here today.” A metal marker reading “Rest in Peace” was created by an Augusta High shop class to mark the spot where the remains were interred. A granite memorial with the names of those interred will be provided by Montana Granite at a later date. Article stated that 153 individuals were interned. At the ceremony the stated number was 100. Cemetery staff confirmed 100. I added reference to the county corner's office based on other reports.
