Description	:	Wm. Elford Wm. Elford, one of the pioneers of the Elford settlement in Colchester North and Gosfield North, passed at his home in town shortly before midnight on Saturday, after an illness of over a year from asthma and dropsy, being confined to the house for three months past. The funeral was held on Tuesday after-noon, with services at the family residence on Laird Ave., conducted by Rev. W. E. Donnelly, and interment in Kingsville cemetery. Deceased was born in Cornwall, England, in 1833 [1831], and came with his parents to Canada in 1845. The family settled in Darlington Tp., Durham Co., but later moved to Mitchell. Thirty-seven years ago deceased moved to Essex Co. and settled on the 8th Con. Of Colchester North residing there for a quarter of a century, then moving to the 8th Con. Of Gosfield North, retiring from active work four years ago, and moving to town. He was married twice, first to Elizabeth Hawkey, who died 29 years ago, and second to Rebecca Cantling, who survives him. Five children were born to the first union – John (deceased), William, Maurice, Lawrence and Elizabeth (Mrs. Michael Sweetman) all of Elford. Isaac of Elford, is the only surviving member of the family of eight children. Deceased became a member of the Methodist church when a young man, and was one of the leading members of the church at Elford for many years, and Superintendent of the Sunday School there for years.
