Old Cemetery Ledger states: "William Falconer, 97 years. Ashes interred Jan 10, 1962" "William Ellis William Falconer Ellis, 93, son of a pioneer Napa County settler, died Sunday. He was the son of the late Fred Ellis, who operated a flour mill for pioneer George Yount and later also operated his own as well as the famed Old Bale Mill near St. Helena and the Chiles Mill in Chiles Valley. Born in Yountville, William F. Ellis went to schools there and attended the old Oak Brown School in Napa. Until about 1888 he operated a grocery store in Yountville, and then moved to Fresno, returning to Yountville in 1913 when he began farming. In 1917 he went to work for Keig's Shoe Store in Napa and remained there until 1925. At that time, Mr. Ellis moved to Porterville. In 1931 he returned to Napa Valley, residing in the home of a daughter, Berdine McKenzie, at Yountville. In 1933, the family moved to Napa. His wife, Sarah Ellis, and a daughter, Joyce Doyl, preceded him in death. Survivors include four children: Ralph A. Ellis and Delight Kellogg, Merced; Dorothy Green, Salem, Ore.; and Mrs. McKenzie of Napa. Fifteen grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Treadway and Wigger Garden Chapel. Cremation will follow at Tulocay Cemetery with the ashes to be buried with those of his late wife in the family plot of Yountville Cemetery." - Napa Register (January 1, 1962)
