Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with the Rev. Martin Leeper officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Fitzsimmons was born Dec. 11, 1915 at the homestead, West Timber Creek, near Cedar Rapids to Thomas James and Mary Ann (McWilliams) Fitzsimmons. Survivors are his wife, Pearl; three daughters and a son. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors. He received his education at District 28 near Timber Creek. He was baptized and confirmed to the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids in the fall of 1953. He was a member of the United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He married Daisy Pearl Kershaw on Feb. 4, 1934, at Albion. William was a farmer and rancher most of his life and loved nature and the land. He and his wife farmed the old homestead in the Cedar Rapids area, as well as at Akron for two years in 1944 and 1945. He had a great love for animals and raised quarter horses and Belgian horses. William served on the school board for District 55 for 15 years as treasurer. He was loved by family and community for his loyalty to all things that were right and just. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William E. Fitzsimmons; a grandson, Ronald Demuth, a son-in-law, Jerry Scott; five brothers, Robert, Roy, Thomas James and an infant brother, John; and four sisters, Mable Hartford, Eva Olsen, Pearl Martinsen, and Edith Bourn.
