They were the parents of 14 children: Lawrence William, Catherine, Helen, Sarah, Robert A, Wesley C, Esther, Wanda, Joseph, William, Dale, James, Dennis, and Doris. They were the parents of 14 children: Lawrence William, Catherine, Helen, Sarah, Robert A, Wesley C, Esther, Wanda, Joseph, William, Dale, James, Dennis, and Doris. Contributed by Rich - William, the son of August and Catherine (Gliem) Bettin, was born at Ashton, Ill. January 20, 1879. When he was still a small boy he moved with his parents to Clinton township. He was united in marriage with Mahela Hillman on August 28, 1912, at Sac City, Iowa. Fourteen children were born to this union, ten of whom survive. They are: Lawrence of Lake View; Catherine (Mrs. Alvin Lange) of Odebolt; Sarah (Mrs. Arthur Christiansen) of Denver, Colo.; Robert of Fairbault, Minn.; Wesley of Owatonna, Minn.; Esther (Mrs. Leo Geyer) of Bixby, Minn.; Wanda (Mrs. Floyd Dierenfeld) of Storm Lake; William of Osmond, Neb.; Dale of Davenport and Jimmy of Owatonna, Minn. In addition to the children mentioned above he is survived by his widow, Mahela; two brothers, Charles of Sac City and Fred of Lake View; two sisters, Mrs. Chris Blass of Early and Mrs. Carrie Herrig of Des Moines; also 42 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four children: Helen, Doris, Dennis and Joseph, two sisters and one brother Immediately after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Bettin moved to the farm northwest of Wall Lake where they have lived all of their married life. Extensive plans were being made by the children to observe the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bettin in August of this year. Mr. Bettin had been a member of the Salem Reformed church for many years and in 1945 united with Peace Lutheran church in Wall Lake. He was seemingly in good health and was busy with his usual evening chores when he was stricken with a heart attack which resulted in his sudden death Friday, April 20.
