Read More	William Frederick Houk, 81, Mitchell, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday at First United Methodist Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Dudley Cemetery, rural Stickney. He was born on Sept. 20, 1924, at Colome to Leo and Sophia (Smith) Houk. He grew up and attended schools in Rapid City and served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. On June 8, 1949, he married Harriet Ann Nelson in Stickney. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, in 1950 and his master of science degree from the University of Wyoming. He received National Science Foundation grants in the summers of 1958 and 1959. He attended the summer science program in ecology at the University of Texas in 1969 and held a fellowship at Purdue University from 1978-1979. He taught science in Murdo from 1950- 1952, Mitchell High School from 1953-1967, and at DWU from 1967 until his retirement in 1989. In 1967, he was named SD Outstanding Science Teacher of the year. On July 6, 1989, he married LouOra Nelson Busk at Mitchell. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, YMCA, Ys Men and Gideons. He had served as a board member of Dakota Discovery Museum, Wesley Acres and Salvation Army. He is survived by his wife, a son, Bruce (Debbie) Auburn, Wash.; Two daughters: Kathleen Hoffman (Roger) Centennial, Colo.; and Rebecca Thorson, Longmont Co.; Stepchildren: Douglas (Linda) Busk, Troy Mich.; Barbara Galarneau (Andrew), Grandby, Conn.; and Byron (Thelma) Busk, Ethan, SD; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren; and a brother; Donald (Evie) Rapid City, SD. He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1985, his parents and a brother, Gerald.
