Description	:	CHARLESTON -- Mr. Young, 83, died Sunday, January 30, 2005. Born in Charleston, he was a son of the late William Frederick Young, Sr. and Lois Burgess Young. A graduate of Charleston High School, he attended the College of Charleston. A Marine veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired after 34 years with Union Oil Company of California. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Young formerly hosted and directed The Children's Hour on WCSC Radio. He was a past member of the Footlight Players, the Hibernian Society, Charleston Yacht Club and past president of the Charleston Sertoma Club. In Columbia he was a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church and the Quadrille Club. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Clark Curry of Clemson; and granddaughters, Rose Katherine Curry and Corey Elizabeth Curry, also of Clemson. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Mae Parsons Young and his brother, Kenneth B. Young of Greenville. Dunbar Funeral Home of Columbia is assisting the family.
