Description	:	William G. Buhrig's full name was Wilhelm Adolph George Buehrig (later changed to Buhrig). He was born to Chris Buehrig and Christina Klintwood in Bremervorde, Germany, near Hamburg. He came to the United States in approximately 1886 at the young age of 14. On May 17, 1909, William was naturalized. At age 17 William returned to Germany to serve his mandatory four-year military obligation. He then returned to the United States, but his father did not. William revisited Germany a couple of times, and later his brother, Christopher Buhrig also came to the United States. Christopher A. Buhrig (161035910) survived William and passed in 1961. William married Emma Eliza Maria Kruger on 8 February 1900. They had five children. Sadly, Emma died before she reached the age of 34, leaving William with the five children to raise. In May of 1923, William's grocery store was featured in the Fremont Guide and Tribune paper. Five years after the death of Emma, William married Johanna Weihe and together they had two children, Wilma J. Buhrig and William G. Buhrig. In 1925 William and Johanna purchased 120 acres of farm land on what is now Old Highway 8. By 1929 they had moved to Rockyford, South Dakota and were raising pigs. The farm equipment and animals in Nebraska were all sold at auction before the move. In 1936 they moved back to the Fremont area and again farmed. He died in Fremont, Dodge Co., Nebraska at the age of seventy, and shares a headstone with his 2nd wife. **Personal note, William, my great uncle, once owned the property I now live on, which was purchased by my Dad in 1964.
