OBIT: Norfolk Daily News 2/3/1961 Pg 1 & 11 Norfolk Public Library "Longtime Resident W.G. Flint Dies W.G. Flint, 92, resident of the Norfolk community since 1904 was found dead Thursday evening in his bed at his home, 1203 S Third St., where he lived alone. He apparently died of old age complications. He was found by George Luetje, a neighbor, who went to the Flint home to look after the furnace. Just as Mr. Luetje entered the house through the back door, the telephone rang. Mr. Luetje answered the call which was made by Walter Gutzmann. Mr. Luetje told Mr. Gutzmann he would look to the house for Mr. Flint and discovered him dead in bed. A doctor said he believed Mr. Flint had been dead since about 10 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hillview Chapel _ _ _ _ _ _ the Park Avenue Christian Church. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hillview Chapel. BORN IN MISSOURI Mr. Flint was born in Davies County, Missouri, Oct. 29, 1868. He went to Marion County, Illinois with his mother and sister at the age of 10. When he was 19, he joined his father at Great Bend, Kan., where he was associated with him in the music business. He later moved to Nelson, Neb., where he represented Max Myer Brothers of Omaha as a piano and organ salesman. He worked {as} a farm hand for two years and was married July 18, 1892 to Frances Smykal. They were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Nettie M. Cook, 821 S. Ninth St. Mr. Flint moved to a claim in Chase County in 1892 and in the spring of 1894 located in California where he worked with the Southern Pacific Railroad freight department. He moved to Wahoo in October 1896, and operated a farm until 1904. MOVED HERE IN 1904 In the spring of 1904, he purchased a farm southwest of Norfolk, living there until he moved to the city in 1927. He became a member of the Christian Church at Nelson, Dec. 14, 1889. He was prominently identified with the Park Avenue Christian Church at Norfolk. Mr.Flint was a director of the DeLay First National Bank at the time of his death. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Cook, and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife." |
