Born in the Hynson area of Caroline County Feb. 19, 1920, he was the son of the late John George and Nora Nichols Ruf Coulblourne. Ruf of 7016 Reliance Road, Federalsburg, died Friday, May 20, 1994, at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 74. Born in the Hynson area of Caroline County Feb. 19, 1920, he was the son of the late John George and Nora Nichols Ruf Coulblourne. Upon receiving his education, he worked on the family farm then enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 6, 1941. He served in Normandy, Northern France and Germany during World War II and received both a Bronze Star and a Silver Star in addition to a Purple Heart as a result of an injury on Sept. 8, 1944 in France. He later received a battlefield commission to the rank of lieutenant. He also received the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon and the American Defense Service Ribbon. Upon his return, he joined the E.I. DuPont Co. of Seaford, Del. where he remained for 34 years until his retirement in March 1982. He was a retired member of the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company and Federalsburg Post 5346, V.F.W. He is survived by his wife, the former Eva Mae Collins, whom he married on April 22, 1949; a daughter, Bonnie Ruf Lyden, Federalsburg; a son, William G. Ruf Jr., Federalsburg; a sister, Betty Ruf Nagel, Federalsburg; four brothers, Herbert Ruf, Greensboro; Carlton Ruf, Hurlock; Robert L. Ruff; and Charles L. Ruf, Fedralsburg; also a grandson and a granddaughter. A sister, Elizabeth Wright, and a brother, Warner Ruf, are deceased. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Williamson Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Federalsburg, where viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery of the Eastern Shore, Beulah.
