Description	:	William G. Coldwell, 75, of Winthrop Avenue, Lowell, died Thursday in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Coldwell was born in Chelmsford on Oct. 27, 1908, the son of the late James W. Coldwell and Ada F. (Henderson) Coldwell, but had been a resident of Lowell for the greater part of his life. Mr. Coldwell was born in Chelmsford on Oct. 27, 1908, the son of the late James W. Coldwell and Ada F. (Henderson) Coldwell, but had been a resident of Lowell for the greater part of his life. Educated in the Lowell school system, he graduated from the Nutler School and Lowell High School, Class of 1927, having served as class president during his junior and senior years. An avid sportsman, he played twilight baseball, and had been involved with the Y.M.C.A. and the National Guard basketball teams. He had been a member of various bowling leagues throughout the Greater Lowell area. Mr. Coldwell had coached and managed Babe Ruth league, and in the mid 1960s, had managed the Walker Rogers Post No. 662, Veterans of Foreign Wars Softball League. He had served a term with the Massachusetts National Guard and was released from duty in 1939. Employed as a cost accountant by the United States Government, he had been assigned to Fort Devens and Panama in the early 1940s. Upon his return, he was associated with the Watertown Arsenal, and later with Fletcher’s Quarry, where he remained for 10 years. While working at the Watertown Arsenal and Fletcher’s Quarry, Mr. Coldwell had been employed on a part-time basis in interior decorating, painting and papering. In 1955, he founded the William G. Coldwell Painting and Decorating Business, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Virginia E. (Ellis) Coldwell; a daughter, Mrs. James (Nancy) Dugay of Fairfield, Ala.; three sons, The Rev. Richard Coldwell of Arkansas City, Kan.; Royal Coldwell of Andover; and William Coldwell, Jr. of Lowell; four sisters, Mrs. Harry (Clara) Siddeley and Mrs. William (Mabel) Greenwood, both of Oceanside, Calif.; Mrs. Guy (Ada) Staveley of West Chelmsford; and Mrs. Harold (Ella) Noble of Westford; a brother, Owen S. Coldwell of Westford; also 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Misty Coldwell. Funeral services at the Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, at Chester and Harvard Streets,.
