Read More	Death Takes Former Creighton Business Man After a lingering illness of several months duration death claimed William Graham Sr. at the home of his son, William Graham Jr. on a farm nine miles west of Creighton on Thursday morning, May 7, at 8:05 a.m. His death was brought on following a stroke of paralysis. William Graham was a native of England and was born on his father's farm in Cumberland near the border of Scotland, November 24, 1851 and was 74 years of age. He learned the carpenters trade and worked at his vocation in many cities throughout the two countries. He had been thus employed in Glasgow some five years at the time of his immigration to the states. His decision to come was sudden, only three days elapsing between his first thought of a trip across the sea and his coming. An old Scotchman from Wisconsin had a longing to see his native heath again and while in Glasgow, became too feeble to return home alone and it was suggested that Mr. Graham accompany him home. Sailing from Glasgow in 1880, they landed in New York and came directly west and landed in the same year from England, his birth place. It was a year later, when the disastrous flood swept through the Niobrara Valley, killing many people and sweeping away farms and livestock. The flood struck the town and swept many of the old landmarks with it. Being a carpenter, Mr. Graham's services were in great demand at this time and he was one of the men to help move the town from its old location to its present site. The year after the flood in 1882, Mr. Graham moved to Creighton, where he opened one of the best hardware stores in this territory. He maintained the store for 24 years and earned the reputation as one of the leading businessmen of Creighton. In June 1903 he retired. During the summer of 1904, he took his entire family to England to enjoy a visit with many old friends and relatives. William Graham was the son of John and Elizabeth Graham, whose ancestors have lived in England for many years. He was twice married, first in 1885 to Mary Hindman, a resident of Independence, Iowa. One daughter, Eva, was born to them. This first wife passed away three years after this union in 1888. In 1895 Mr. Graham was married to Lucinda Woodward of Oskaloosa, Ia. This marriage was broken by the death of Mrs. Graham in 1907. Before her death a son was born to the couple in 1898, when William Graham Jr. came to bless their home. Previous to moving to Creighton, a little over a year ago to make his home with his son on the farm, he resided with his daughter, Mrs. O. Ibs and grandson, Paul Weaver, at Sioux City, for about seven years. He is survived by his son and daughter, besides five brothers, four of whom are residing in England and one in Canada. The deceased was a member of the Congregational church and was a man well and favorable known in Knox county. He was known for his square dealings and was upright in every way and many will mourn his passing. Honest Billie Graham was a comely title by which he was know and truly earned. The funeral was held on Saturday morning at 11 o'clock from the Congregational church in charge of Rev. DeBenham of Spencer, Nebraska, who gave a befitting eulogy of the life of this man.
