Description	:	Funeral services for William Cox, age 87, of Creighton, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Creighton. Reverend Terry Huber will officiate with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery in rural Plainview, Nebraska. Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1151, American Legion Post 74, and United States Navy Honor Team. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. William died Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Avera Creighton Care Centre in Creighton. William H. Cox was born on June 22, 1927, in Syracuse, New York. He attended Plainview area schools. Bill served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Lois Horstmann on June 19, 1947. Three sons were born to them: David, Richard, and Kevin. Bill worked as a mechanic for area implement dealers. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in rural Creighton, and was also the Creighton VFW Post. Bill was a very important member of the Creighton Volunteer Fire Department. He served as Fire Chief for 30 years, Assistant Fire Chief for 16 years, and retired as Deputy Fire Chief. Bill received awards from the Nebraska State Volunteer Fireman's Association. One award recognized him for 50 years of service to the Fire Department. Bill is survived by his wife Lois, of Creighton, Nebraska; five grandchildren, two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three sons, David, Richard, and Kevin.
