"Bill" Timmins, 78, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at his residence. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Le Mars, with the Rev. Randall Knuth officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Mr. Timmins was born May 23, 1923, in Des Moines, the son of William and Irma (Carmer) Timmins. Bill was raised in Urbandale, Iowa, and graduated from Urbandale High School in 1941. Bill served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. Following his discharge, he attended the University of Iowa, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. Bill graduated with a degree in business in 1950. On Aug. 11, 1951, Bill was united in marriage to Shirley Rowe at Plymouth Presbyterian Church. He worked at Pioneer Phosphate Co. in Des Moines, and then he and Shirley moved to a farm near Le Mars. Bill and Shirley farmed west of Le Mars until retirement in 1988. They moved to Le Mars in 2000. Bill had served as Johnson township clerk, served on the board of Plymouth Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. for 19 years and served on the board for Food For Life for 10 years. He was a longtime member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent and was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years. Bill also had served his church as a member of the choir, trustee, elder, and served as a board member on the Presbytery level. Bill was an avid reader and lively conversationalist. He loved to travel and especially loved to sing. He sang for many events and was a past member of the Plymouth County Barbershoppers. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Le Mars; a daughter, Rebecca Timmins of Apple Valley, Minn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Timmins of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Marilyn Argenta of Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Dean and Jean Rowe of Le Mars; nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, David Argenta. Pallbearers will be Steven Rowe, Todd Hendrickson, Clark Tindall, Kent Brown, Gregory Olsen and Ryan Laroco. Honorary pallbearers will be the Plymouth Presbyterian Brotherhood, Arlan Lucken, Vernon Robinson, Dean Rowe, Ralph Taylor, Gene Toben, Ron Wendt, Don Mortenson, Lydon Ray, the Rev.
