The Palmyra Items: 9-18-1936: The news of the tragic death of William Bolz, Jr., on the evening of September 8, when his airplane crashed during a windstorm near Hanover, Kansas, was received with profound regret here. The cause of the fatal accident can only be surmised as Mr. Bolz was flying alone. So far as known the only person to witness the accident was a boy who told that the airplane suddenly went into a tail spin and fell nose down. William Bolz, Jr., was born near Palmyra June 29, 1910. He died near Hanover, Kansas, at the age of 26 years, 2 months, and 10 days. He was graduated from country schools on May 29, 1925. Sunday, July 4, 1926, he became a member of the Methodist church in Palmyra, and was a faithful member throughout his life. He took a course in airplane engineering in Chicago, receiving his certificate in 1927. He worked for several years for the airplane school and became a good airplane mechanic. Later he worked for the Palmyra Auto Co. A year and a half ago he took employment at the booster station of the gas company. September 8, he left Palmyra for a week's vacation, departing in his plane. Mr. Bolz's friends knew him as a young man of a kind and happy disposition and he was popular with all. He leaves to mourn his loss his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bolz; one brother John, of Weeping Water; three sisters, Mary and Mabel at home, and Mrs. Rose Johnson of Unadilla; also a large number of other relatives. Interment was made in the Unadilla cemetery.
