Brunstein, 35 and his wife, Elnora, 32, of 320 Saxon street, in an attempt to learn a motive for the death of the couple in what they believe to be a case of murder and suicide. The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Brunstein were found at 12:25 a. m. Thursday in an automobile parked at the side of Hawver road in Gates park, about one block east of the north end of North Barclay street. Mrs. Brunstein had been shot through the left ear and her husband through the head just above the right ear. A .38 caliber automatic pistol was found in Brunstein's right hand and a note, written on the back of a restaurant check, was found on the windshield. The six-word note named a Waterloo man, saying he "is responsible for this," police said. Dr. C. D. Winder, deputy county coroner, who is cooperating with police in the investigation, had not called an inquest by noon Thursday and it was believed that no inquest would be held unless the need is indicated by new information. An empty shell case from the pistol was found in Mrs. Brunstein's lap and a second case was found in the rear compartment of the 1930 sedan in which the bodies were found. From this evidence, the location of the head wounds in the two bodies and powder burns that indicated both shots were fired at close range, Police Chief Harry Krieg and Chief of Detectivcs Emil Steffen concluded that Brunstein had first shot his wife and then taken his own life. As Brunstein, seated behind the wheel, shot into his wife's head, the empty case from the automatic pistol, which ejects empty shells, on the right side, would have been tossed into the rear seat where it was found, they explained. Build Up Theory. Police then concluded that Brunstein had turned the gun on himself and the empty shell was either ejected directly into his wife's lap or struck the windshield and glanced into the position where it was found. However, police were unwilling to close the case until they had investigated the connection that the Waterloo man named in the note had with the family. They were also attempting to learn how Brunstein received a deep gash on the top of his head, about one inch long. This wound, apparently inflicted only a short time before his death, was not discovered until late Thursday morning. Brunstein also had five or six shallow perforations of the skin above the right eye that appeared to have been inflicted by the teeth of a comb. Find $500 on Man. Police found $500 in 25 bills of $20 denominations in a bank wrapper in Brunstein's pocket. Brunstein had been employed on the day shift at the Chamberlain Corp. plant and worked Monday and Tuesday of this week. He was not at work Wednesday, company officials said. Mrs. Brunstein had been employed since last February. Moved Six Months Ago. The family had lived on Logan avenue until about six months ago, when they moved to an apartment at 320 Saxon street. However, when Brunstein registered his automobile on Jan. 31, 1946, he gave his address as 303 Argyle street The bodies are at the O'Keefe & Towne funeral home at Denver, Ia. Police Chief Harry Krieg, however, requested Thursday morning that the bodies be held here until the police investigation is completed. Married in 1931. Elnora Kurtt was born in Denver, la., July 25, 1913, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kurtt. She lived all of her childhood there, and on June 27, 1931, was married to William Brunstem, who grew up in the Waverly orphanage. They lived in Denver until 1942, when they moved to Waterloo. They had lived here since, the husband in employ of Chamberlain Corp. Surviving are her parents; a daughter, Barbara Ann, 14; three sisters, Frieda, at home. Mrs. Waldo Gleason, Denver, Mrs. Willard Meyne, Junction City, Kan.; and four brothers. Ervin, Great Falls, Mont., Harold, Arthur and John, all at home. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church, Denver. Raised in Orphanage. William Brunstein was born in Rockwell City, la., May 17, 1910, son of Mr. and Mrs. H W. Brunstein. His mother died during his infancy, and he was committed to the orphanage at Waverly, la. Although his father later remarried, he was raised in the orphanage, and had worked in Denver after release. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Norfolk, Va, and two brothers, John, Mason City, la., and Emil, Philadelphia, Pa. Funeral for Brunsteins Private Double funeral services being planned for William Brunstein, 35, and his wife. Elnora, 32, of 320 Saxon street who were found dead Thursday morning in a car parked near Gates park. Bullet holes were found in the heads of both, and police believed it to be a case of murder and suicide. Dr. C. D. Winder. deputy coroner, said Friday there would be no inquest. He said he agreed with the murder-suicide theory of the police, and termed the case closed. He said that questioning of friends of Mr. and Mrs. Brunstein substantiated belief that marital difficulties led to the shooting. A private service will be held at 2 p. m. Monday at Denver, la., with Rev. H. C. Schiffler of St. Peter's Lutheran church in charge. The bodies will be buried side by side in the same lot in Fairway cemetery. Both will be at the Matthias funeral home in Denver until the time of services, but the public will not be admitted Monday
