He was at his residence at 551 W. Macon street. Apoplexy is supposed to have caused his death. His wife was sitting near by and he had been talking with her. He opened a book he had in his hand and looked at it a short time. then, without a word his eyes closed and his head nodded and he seemed to be going to sleep. Mrs.Cake spoke to him but he did not reply and she went up and touched him. Then she saw that he was dead or dying. She ran out of doors and called to her neighbors who immediately hurried into the house. Dr. and Mrs.F.O.Rhoad were among the first ones to reach the house. With the help of other neiGhbors they lifted Mr.Cake to bed. Then a doctor was called. Nothing howevEr could be done to help him and he was dead before the doctor arrived. While he was talking with his wife he seemed to be in good spirits and did not complain about feeling bad. The only sign of illness he had shown Tuesday was a spell of coughing at the office of the Union Iron Works,where he was employed as bookkeeper. Mr. Cake was born on March 30, 1867 at Ashland,Ohio. He was the son of Rev.E.B.Cake, who died some years ago and Mrs. Jennie S.Cake of Decatur. He came west with his parents when he was still young. The family settled in Missouri and he lived there most of his life. He worked as a traveling salesman for several firms of St.Louis,Nevada Mo and Kansas City.He came to Decatur eight years ago and secured employment as a bookkeeper in the Union Iron Works. Five years ago he married Miss Margaret Williams, the daughter of Major R.T.Williams. Besides his widow and his mother, Mr.Cake leaves three brothers and three sisters. The brothers are Harry Cake of Seattle,Wash., George S.Cake of St. Louis,Charles Cake of Washington D.C.,his sisters are Mrs.R.L.Duggall of Marysville,Mo,Mrs.J.E.Bankhead of Clarksville,Mo and Miss Frances Cake of Decatur. Mr. Cake was highly esteemed and well liked by the businessmen and others with whom he came in contact.He was agreeable in address and a good busines man. His employers speak of him in terms of the highest regard.
