DeLapp was born in Salem, North Carolina July 19, 1855. With his father's family he moved to Kansas in 1869 and settled in the vicinity of Cherokee, and the remainder of his life has been spent in or near this locality. He was married April 8, 1879, to Mary E. Dennis and from this union three children were born, one of which, together with his wife, has preceded him in death. In December 1921, he was married to Mrs. Eva Nowland of Cherokee, where he resided until after her death, when he moved to McCune and was married to Mrs. Verbena A. DeLapp. After her death in October, 1942, he returned to Cherokee, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Methodist church of McCune. He died October 3, 1944, aged 89 years, 2 months and 14 days. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Riley of Bethel, Kansas; one son, Carl DeLapp of Cherokee; one half brother; two half sisters; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. For many years he was custodian of the city schools and he really kept things up. We enjoyed visiting with him. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church this afternoon with Rev. J.S. Bottoms officiating, and burial was in the Cherokee cemetery.
