Eaton was born at Miller Grove, near Sidney, Iowa on October 15, 1860 and departed this life on July 16, 1922 at Emerson. At the age of 5 years, he moved with his parents to Montgomery County, where he lived until 1886, when he married Adaline Treat on January 7 of that year. They moved to a homestead near Gem, Thomas County, Kentucky and then to Emerson in March 1894, and Mr. Eaton engaged in the grain business. To this union were born seven children, Mrs. Mabel Honeyman and Edna J. of Emerson, Iowa, Marcus M., Thomas H., and Benjamin of Torrington, Wyoming, who survive him. Ray Lee who died in infancy, and Lawrence, the son who was killed in the same accident. His wife died in June 1905. He was united in marriage to Jessie B. Cheney June 23, 1906. To this union one daughter was born, Eunice L, September 25, 1907. They moved to Nebraska in 1910, living there for 5 years, removing to Pacific Junction and 3 years later returned to their home in Emerson. At the age of 20 he united with the Baptist Church of Emerson and since that time has been a constant and faithful member working in various departments of the church. He was deeply interested in music and through his influence, the children received the incentive to excel in musical lives. He was a band member of long standing. He was a member of the Woodmen and Yeomen lodges. Mrs. Eaton was of a quiet and retiring disposition, but a dependable friend and neighbor. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and 5 children, 4 grandchildren, his father, one sister, four brothers, and many relatives and friends. Funeral services for all three of the victims of Sunday's tragedy at Emerson were held at the Baptist church on Tuesday afternoon. The services were in charge, of the pastor, Rev. W. H. Stickel, assisted by Rev. J. E. Wilkins of Malvern and former Emerson pastor. Music for the occasion was furnished by a Glenwood quartet, Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Plimpton and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Herrick, with Miss Helen Plimpton at piano. The pallbearers for the father were C. O. Smith, C. D. Greenwood, Ivan Salmons, S. C. Davis, Robert Good, IA. J. Thomas. For the son, Horace Greenwood, Paul Richardson, Charles Greenwood, Harold Oliver, John Confer, Glen Confer. For the daughter, Roy Davis, Earl Cramer, Kenneth Shaw, Lester Thomas, Guy Harold, Robert Davis. The relatives present at the funerals from a distance were the three sons, Mark, Thomas and Benjamin, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Eaton and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Eaton, and M.[Melvin] Eaton, all of Torrington, Wyo. The latter is the father, 86 years old; the others are brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Lovett of Topeka, Kan., Mrs. Lovett being an only sister. The funeral was the most largely attended of any that has been held in Emerson in years.
