He was married to Miss Adelaide J. Avard on March 26th, 1875. To this union five children were born, four boys and a girl, Lole(sic), Pearl, Floyd, Glenn, and Mrs. Myrtle M. Colwell, who, with her mother, are left to mourn his loss along with three brothers, three sisters and his aged mother, who is in the 89th year of her age and was unable to attend the funeral. Funeral services were held from the farm home on Monday, March 16th, at 1:30 p.m., being conducted by Rev. D. P. Smith. Interment was had in the Pawnee City cemetery. Mr. Poteet located on the farm where he lived all his life since coming to Pawnee county nearly thirty years ago, and we knew him for mote than a quarter of a century as a friend always cheerful and always hopeful to those around him. His devotion to his family was marked, and his kindness to everybody will linger as a pleasant memory in the home now darkened by death. Though he is gone his record has been made and will remain a lasting treasure. His life was gentle, but like the still water it was deep. In his heart of hearts he carried those he loved, and his hand was never weary and his step never failed in caring for and ministering to those who were in any way dependent upon him. Peace to his ashes. Mrs. W. H. Poteet and family desire to thank the neighbors and friends for their kindness in assisting in the hour of sorrow.-Pawnee Republican.
