He joined the Church when he was about 14. He was called to many positions of leadership in England plus he filled a mission there. In 1861 , he emigrated to Utah . He taught school in Kaysville in 1861-1862 . The next year he taught in Mound Fort . In 1864 , he drove a team and wagon for some emigrants in the Preston Company. He taught school in the winter and worked as a carpenter until 1874 , when he started farming and stockraising. He was postmaster and helped in many other community positions. Sometime between 1874 and 1886 , he lived for a time in San Juan , and then in 1886 he moved to Mancos, Colorado . He was the superintendent of schools for a time.
