He was a retired dairy farmer in Nelson County and was a member of the Rose Union Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lucille Campbell Giles; four children, Claude W. Giles Sr. of Piney River, Kathryn G. Jessee of Forest, Maxine G. Mason of Roanoke, and Janice G. Wilson of Lynchburg; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. Jack Campbell with burial in the Giles family cemetery in Piney River. Funeral services were conducted at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. Jack Campbell. Burial was in the Giles family cemetery in Piney River. The family received friends at the funeral home and other times at the Giles family home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roseland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 39, Roseland, Va. 22967, the Piney River Fire Department, Piney River, Va., 22964 or Hospice of the Hills, Virginia Baptist Hospital, 3300 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, Va. 24503.
