Description	:	William Hanna Bayless was a prominent Baltimore attorney and financier. By his own hand: "William Hanna Bayless was born April 26, 1854, at the Bayless homestead near Glenville, Harford County, Maryland. He received his early education from the public school on the neighborhood, afterwards spending several years as a pupil in Washington Institute, Columbia, Pennsylvania, and later attending Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1874 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 1877 receiving from the same institution the degree of Master of Arts. Previous to this he had entered upon the study of law in the office of the Honorable Henry D. Fernandis, Bel Air, Maryland, but seeing a favorable opening in the West, he entered the Law School of the Iowa State University, Iowa City, Iowa, graduating in the spring of 1877 with the degree of Bachelor of Laws. He was admitted to the Bar after examination before the Supreme Court of the State of Iowa , but fearing the severity of the Western climate, he returned to Baltimore, attended Univ. of MD Law School (1877) where he was admitted on certificate to practice in the courts of Baltimore and the State of Maryland. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Psi College Fraternity, and President of the Southern Alumni Association of Lafayette College, and is also a Director of the Boys' Home Society. He served as a trustee of the Northminister Presbyterian Church, North Avenue and St. Paul Street, Baltimore, Maryland, Trustee of Boys' Home of Baltimore, and Aberdeen Land Company and Director of the Fidelity & Deposit Company adn Director of the National Exchange Bank of Baltimore. He married, October 26, 1881, at Silver Mount, Harford County, Maryland, Annie Peirce Silver, born July 25, 1856, died Dec 14, 1914, daughter of James and Annie Peirce (Pannell) Silver, born October 22, 1822, died November 14, 1891, of Harford County. She was educated at the Mary Baldwin School, Staunton, Virginia. Her father, James Silver, was born June 27, 1812, died January 29, 1876, son of Benjamin Silver (11) who was born December 25, 1782, died December 1847; served in Harford County Militia at the Battle of North Point, September 12, 1814, and married November 20, 1806, Charity Warnock, daughter of Philip Warnock, of Scottish ancestry, both born in Newry, Ireland, who emigrated to American prior to the Revolution and enrolled April 1, 1776, in company 17 Maryland Militia, commanded by Captain John Patrick. Benjamin Silver (II) was son of Benjamin Silver (I), who was born 1753, died 1818, enrolled September 23, 1775, in 3d Company, Maryland Militia, commanded by Captain Charles Anderson. He married Euphemia Smith, daughter of Japheth Smith, of New Jersey. Benjamin Silver (1) was the son of Gershom Silver, who was born in New Jersey and died in Maryland about 1775. He married before 1750, Millicent Archer. Gershom Silver was son of James Silver, who was born in England and came to America in 17- - . Children of William Hanna and Annie Peirce (Silver) Bayless: William Silver Bayless, born November 25, 1883, married, February 14, 1911, Lelia Sinclair Blakistone of Baltimore, studied M.E. at Lehigh University from Sept 1903 to Feb 1905. B. O. II Fraternity. He graduated at the University of Maryland Law School 1908, and practiced law in Juneau, Alaska. James Silver Bayless, born November 10, 1885; graduated mechanical engineer from Lehigh University, 1909; B. O. II Fraternity; worked in the contract department of Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland. Anna Pannell Bayless born October 14, 1888, graduated from Wilfred Home School, Baltimore, 1907, Washington College, D.C. 1908. John Z. Bayless, born February 8, 1890, educated at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Lehigh University (did not graduate); B. O. II Fraternity; and engaged in gold mining at Thane, Alaska. George Edward Silver Bayless, born August 23, 1891, educated at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Hobart College (did not graduate), K.A. Fraternity; and engaged in business in Baltimore, Maryland, with the Mt. Vernon Woodberry Mills, Inc. Mr. Bayless was a stockholder and director in the National Howard Bank of Baltimore, and in politics was identified with the Democratic party, but was not active in the affairs of the organization and, while taking an earnest interest in public matters, never sought nor accepted office. While his professional duties make too great a demand upon his time to allow him much active participation in social affairs, he was nevertheless known as a man of genial dispositions, winning friends easily and holding them long. Mrs. Bayless was a woman of charming personality and iwas extremely popular in Baltimore society. A descendant of ancestors, each of whom, in his day and generation, served well his country and his State, Mr. Bayless, by his well-directed efforts and strict adherence to lofty standards, added one more to a long line of able and patriotic citizens. In 1912, lived at 2221 St. Paul Street, Baltimore. Noted house was built in 1842.
