Description	:	William H. Hurst, the son of William H. and Nancy J. Stillsworth Hurst, was born July 8, 1877, in Polk County, Ia. He came to Nebraska with his parents in childhood. When he was still a young lad, they located in Fairmont and this had been his home since. January 3, 1902, he was married to Emma Kahler. Frazier, editor of the Fairmont Chronicle.... Read More	William H. Hurst, the son of William H. and Nancy J. Stillsworth Hurst, was born July 8, 1877, in Polk County, Ia. He came to Nebraska with his parents in childhood. When he was still a young lad, they located in Fairmont and this had been his home since. January 3, 1902, he was married to Emma Kahler. Nine children were born to this union: Lewis, Floyd, Linden, Ruth, Harold, Howard, John, Mildred and Junior. As a boy of fourteen, Mr. Hurst entered the employ of Lou W. Frazier, editor of the Fairmont Chronicle. This association was almost continuous over a period of forty-seven years until the time of his passing. Such a record of service eloquently testifies to his efficiency, loyalty and integrity in newspaper work. Other outstanding qualities of his life were his love for and satisfaction in his home life, his capacity for friendships, and his contribution to civic affairs. Hundreds of friends knew him as "Bill" and many remarked that he never had an enemy. At the time of his death, he was a member of the city council and had previously served as city clerk and city treasurer. Death came to him on July 30, 1938, at the age of 61 years and 22 days. Besides the immediate family, two brothers and two sisters survive him. They are Andrew Hurst of Graybull, Wyo., Joseph Hurst of Washington, May Hurst of Hastings, Neb., and Mrs. Lydia Paxson of Augusta, Kas. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the home in charge of Rev. Robert L. Embree, pastor of the Methodist Church. All of the children and their families as well as the two sisters, were present for the services. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal August 4, 1938 Son of William and Nancy J. (Stallsworth) Hurst. Nancy's obituary shows that William died in Polk County, Iowa on January 26, 1887. His burial site is unknown in Polk County, Iowa. Cause of death: Dropsy. Lot owner: William H. Hurst.
