Palmer was born in Crawford county, Indiana, near Muncie, December 6, 1839 and passed from this life at his late residence in Fairmont, Nebraska, November 8, 1929, at 4:30 in the afternoon; aged eighty-nine years, eleven months and two days--only twenty-eight days from being ninety years of age. Mr. Palmer came to Richardson county, Nebraska, in 1866, and fifteen years later, he went to Vernon county, Missouri, and was married January 8, 1881 in Nevada, Missouri to Mrs. Margaret Fry. To them eight children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Those who remain are Mrs. Leo Dorn of Lincoln, Robert and Herman Palmer of Fairmont and Mrs. Dottie Hall of Lincoln. There are also two children by a former marriage, Mrs. George Harris of Spokane, Washington and William H. Palmer of Marshall, Missouri. There are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. After living in Missouri for about eighteen years, Mr. Palmer brought his family to Nebraska, living first near Falls City and in 1910 they came to Fillmore county, where they have since resided. William Palmer was a kind neighbor, ever ready to offer a helping hand. He was an affectionate and loving father, always so well pleased when any of the children could come and be in the home.; and he was a devoted husband, always thinking of the comfort and need of his loving companion of nearly forty-eight years. He was one of the first men the minister of the Federated church came to know in Fairmont. As he worked and cared for the grounds about the big house back of the Federated parsonage there were many intimate talks on various subjects many of which were of a religious character. He expressed himself one day last summer as depending upon Jesus Christ to see him through this last occasion which he met last Friday afternoon. At that time he said to his son, Herman, "I am going on a long journey." We shall miss his familiar form on our streets. Every morning and most every afternoon he went to the post office, even last Friday morning he went and found a letter from "Bob" and hurried home so he and Mother might read it together. Funeral services were conducted at the Federated church of Fairmont, by the pastor, Re. William F. Perry, D.D., on Monday afternoon, November 11, 1929, and his body laid to rest in the Fairmont cemetery. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral included, Mrs. Emma Palmer of Shubert, Nebraska; Charles Low and wife of Belvidere; William Ludwig and wife of Grafton; Mrs. Leo Dorn and children and Mrs. Dottie Hall and children of Lincoln; and Robert Palmer came from Clebourne, Texas, where he is at present employed. When the family and friends returned from the cemetery, they found the evening meal provided for them by the ladies of the Sunday school class of which Mrs. Palmer has long been a member.
