Read More	August 9, 1879, MONROE ENQUIRER, (Union County, NC) -In Memoriam, Died: after a long and protracted illness, in the town of Monroe, on the 10th day of June 1879, Mr. William Henderson SIMPSON. By reason of strength, the deceased had almost finished his three score year and ten, being 69 years, 11 months and 27 days old. He was born and raised in Union county – then a part of Mecklenburg. As a citizen he was faithful to his trust, serving as magistrate for about thirty years, and as Clerk of Court for about fourteen years – both of which offices he filled well. In 1868, he was licensed to practice law, and continued in his profession up to the time of his sickness. – He was kind to the poor, the widow, and indulgent to the debtor. At the age of 23 Mr. SIMPSON with some of his family, joined what was then known as "old Union church," now Bethlehem Presbyterian church; and at the organization of the Presbyterian church in Monroe, or soon thereafter, he became one of its members; - thus, for over 40 years, he was a member of the church. Mr. SIMPSON was confined to his bed for over three months. He bore his sickness with much resignation, and studied how to be as little trouble as possible to his kind and watchful wife and friends. During his sickness, his wife, speaking to him about his condition, and apparent changes, he replied that he had made preparation for that change long ago. One by one our friends are passing over the river. A faithful husband, a kind father, and one possessing many virtues, has been called up higher. He leaves a widow, eight children, and numerous friends to mourn his loss. – Bereaved widow, know thou that God has promised to be a father to the fatherless – disconsolate friends, know that God has promised to be a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Weep not, friends. True, the father's voice is hushed; his step will be heard no more, and to earth no more will he come, but you can go to him.
