"Bill", as everybody called him was one of the old school veterinarians and practiced here until he retired some years ago. In his heydey [sic] of life he was one of the leading figures in the community, but like a sturdy oak of the forest that had withstood all storms for many years over a half century, finally had to succumb to the infirmatives of old age. His last years [sic] were peaceful, broken only by the passing of his beloved wife a few years ago. He is said to be dead, but his soul goes marching on. Obituary: William Hendryx, 88 of Center Point, a life-long resident of Linn County, died Saturday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. W. Bliss 1412 Sixth Street NW, Cedar Rapids. He was born Feb. 2, 1850, near Lafayette, in Linn County. Mr Hendryx was preceded in death by his wife, Oct. 14, 1937 and by a daughter Mrs. Blanche Cantonwine of Vinton, Oct 10, 1918. Mr. and Mrs Hendryx celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary March 4, 1937. Surviving him are four children: Mrs. Maud Bliss of Cedar Rapids, Harry of Port Arthur, Tex, and Seth and Thomas of Center Point; a sister Mrs. P. W. Cress of Lafayette, Ia. and a brother Ben, of Sonoma, Calif. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Methodist church at Center Point, with burial in the Center Point cemetery.
