Read More	William Henry (Bill) Williams III passed away on September 18, 2013 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas at the age of 86. He was born January 23, 1927 east of Council Grove to William Henry Williams Jr. and Garnet Casterline Williams. Bill grew up on a farm near Dunlap, Kansas and attended the Dunlap schools. During his youth, he was active in 4-H, attending the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C., played the violin, enjoyed ice skating and excelled in basketball. Changing his life forever, his father passed away in 1944, leaving Bill to run the family farm with the assistance of his mother and sister. During his many 4-H activities, Bill met his future wife, Gwendolyn Schoof. They married on November 20, 1949 in Council Grove and began their married life on the family farm in Dunlap. In August of 1950 a son was born, William Henry IV (Rick), followed by a daughter Nancy Gail in 1952. In 1956 Bill was enticed to leave Dunlap and head to western Kansas with the promise of irrigation wells that pumped 3200 gallons per minute. Three years later the family relocated to Walsh, Colorado. Walsh brought spreading fertilizer, crop sharing, and farming sugar beets, corn, wheat, milo and broom corn and the birth of his second daughter, Erin Leann, in 1965. A huge part of his life in the 70's and 80's was devoted to tractor pulling. He won numerous trophies and championships and travelled throughout the country. Bill was also an active 4-H leader, obtained his pilot's license, and was instrumental in the building of two feedlots in Baca County. In later years he started Williams Fertilizer while continuing his farm operation. He then began building wet corn grinders and custom corn grinding for local farms. As he retired from farming, he spent the majority of his time in Council Grove assisting his son Rick with his fertilizer business and farming operation, and returning to Baca County each fall for corn grinding season. Bill is survived by his son, Rick Williams and wife Laurie, of Council Grove, KS; daughters, Nancy Dapron and husband Max, of Colorado Springs, CO and Leann Brown and husband Greg, of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren, Kelly Hutchinson and husband Frank, of Council Grove, KS and Addie Brown, of Fort Collins, CO; great-grandchildren, Dylan Booth, of Surprise, AZ, Zoe Hutchinson and Willow Hutchinson, both of Council Grove, KS. Also surviving are his sister, Billiee Mae Swartz, of Topeka, KS; mother-in-law, Olive Schoof, of Council Grove, KS; 1 niece; 1 nephew; 3 step-grandchildren; and 8 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gwen; daughter-in-law, Adela Williams; brother-in-law, Evan Swartz; and step grandson, Adam Hutchinson.
